Why have we formed the Books for Israel Project?

Due to the high security situation,
allocations for education in
Israeli public schools have been drastically cut
.
Monies that might have been available for supplies and books must now pay for security guards, protected buses to bring children to and from schools, for equipping bomb shelters with emergency medical supplies, and even for expanding services provided by psychologists and social workers dealing with children traumatized
by terrorist attacks and the constant atmosphere of war.

There is no money to buy English language literary books this year.

Many schools throughout Israel lack even a small library of good, readable children’s books in the English language.
This is so unfortunate!

This situation affects all children attending Israel’s schools – Jewish, Christian, Druse, Bedoin, Bahai, and Muslim.

English is a language that all Israeli children need to learn. It is an international language, key to communications, trade, scholarship, technical know-how, cultural exchange, and diplomacy.

You can help!
Educators, psychologists, and concerned citizens are joining together to help Israeli children receive
English language literary books, and to spark a channel of meaningful communications about literature.
We hope the Books for Israel Project will build a bridge of learning and sharing between children in Israel
and their friends around the world.
