Roz Kantor and her Florida Drive

  The Ingenuity and
  Determination of Some
  Wonderful, Caring People

Roz Kantor (right), the coordinator for her
 community's campaign, organizes a display
table for the Books for Israel Project
at the annual Jewish Federation Israel
 Festival in Florida.

On hand to explain the project to potential
 volunteers and  donors are also
Nat and Shirley Kantor, a dedicated couple  who helped carry the idea of the
Books for Israel Project to Florida
after they had visited family in Israel and were
 approached by educators seeking help.

A copy of a letter from the adopted flagship school, notifying that the first shipment of books had arrived and  how much the books are appreciated is displayed.

A donations box at the center of the table collects funds used exclusively to help cover shipment costs of donated books. US Postal rates allow the books to be bulk mailed to Israel for under a dollar a pound. As an added incentive at this event, donors contributing $5.00 or more were given a pin of of the American and Israeli flags, as a gift from the Kantors.

The Florida  JFI Festival provided the project with great news coverage, leading to the collection and shipment of some 300 pounds of books from this event alone. While these books are on their way to the schools, more books are still being collected and the Kantors continue in their local outreach work on behalf of the children in the Center of Israel, through the regional flagship at the Shalhevet Elementary School for Boys.
