David Moldau, who helps to head up the book drive committee at Temple Shalom in Salem, also coordinates the book drive at Temple Ner Tamid in cooperation with the nearby Christian Renewal church. Hundreds of books
have been contributed to the Massachusetts book drive, and most particularly since 2004, the youth of Temple Ner Tamid have been taking an increasingly active role in the taxing physical and attention-demanding work of screening, sorting, processing, and packaging the books for mailing.  Together with Temple Shalom, Ner Tamid has adopted the Ma'alot flagship of schools in northern Israel. David Moldau visited Ma'alot in 2003, bringing over a hundred and fifty choice books in a suitcase when he attended a conference to show solidarity with Israel.

Temple Ner Tamid continues to make a great contribution to the Massachusetts based book drive and, as a result, more and more schools in the Ma'alot area are starting and enriching English language libraries.

The people of Ma'alot and the surrounding towns are grateful to the congregants at Ner Tamid, and their friends at Christian Renewal Church, for their care and support.

"Several of the youth have already been to Israel and so this project took on special meaning."
