Jerry Klinger, president of the To Save A Life (TSAL) has taken it upon himself to help keep Books for Israel going. The fact that B4I has continued running and expanding in 2005 is largely to the credit of Mr. Klinger and to other supporters of the Books for Israel Project who have made donations through the TSAL fund that Jerry established. A recognized US charity, TSAL makes it possible for US donors to help cover B4I's operating expenses such as petrol, phone, internet charges, postage, etc. TSAL helps a number of reputable projects in Israel where volunteer work and direct aid are making a change for the better.  You can visit the TSAL website at the following address: http://www.tsal.org

Jerry took an opportunity during a February trip to Israel
to meet B4I's Israeli organizers, Jade and Ilan, with whom
he'd been in long distant contact for some time, and to meet
with some of the incredible educators who have taken it
upon themselves to run flagships on behalf of their own
schools and schools of different groups in their communities. Wherever he went, Jerry asked many questions and gave
a powerful feeling of support to the volunteers involved
in running the local flagship efforts.

Jerry is not merely a friend of educators -- he is
involved in some extensive educational projects himself.
Aside from his business work and in addition to his volunteer
work in running TSAL to support small reputable efforts
throughout Israel, Jerry is a scholarly historian researching
the lives and contributions of Jewish people in America.
He writes a wonderful series about Jewish community life
in the United States and about individual Jews who helped
shape America's history.

of highly readable essays on American Jewish history through the following webpage

As part of his research and writing work, Jerry travels
quite a bit -- around the world and certainly around America.
He is the founder and president  of the Jewish American
Society for Historic Preservation (JASHP)
.  In this
capacity, Jerry researches history of local Jewish communities
and helps make sure that young Jewish children learn about
their ancestors' contributions to American history. Not only
does Jerry organize memorials, informative plaques, and
help set up or enrich local historical museums, but he
sometimes dons historical costumes and provides colorful
retellings of history for children!
For a look into the work of JASHP.

The organizers of the B4I are extremely proud to have Jerry Klinger along with us. Jerry is one of the individuals whose volunteer work and dedication are making positive, humanistic changes in the lives of citizens of Israel, friends of Israel, and Jewish people everywhere.

A proud demonstration of English reading made possible
because of the selection of books donated through B4I.

At Ulpana-Meron...

We look forward to Jerry's visits to these and other flagships
during future trips to Israel.

Thank you, Jerry, and thank you TSAL,
for your help  in keeping Books for Israel running
and for your firm support of efforts by educators
involved in this project!
